Adam Gus Powers
Gus is a freelance theatre maker who studied at Monash University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours in Drama and Theatre Studies) in 1997 and a Master of Theatre (with a focus on scenography) in 2008.
Since mid 2013 Gus has been the Performing Arts Technical Officer (Production Manager) at the Arts Academy, Federation University - Australia. Gus has also worked for several years at the Arts Academy as both set designer and stage manager. Set design highlights include - The Hatpin , Urinetown , The Bacchae , RENT , Oklahoma!, The Tempest and The Kitchen .
This year Gus designed the set and costumes of Oh What A Lovely War for Bryce Ives and Nathan Gilkes of Present Tense Ensemble and after directing Wheeler's Luck at the Backspace (Theatre Royal) in Hobart he looks forward to returning to the Arts Academy as a freelancer set designer and stage manager on Kim Durban's production of Sophie Treadwell's Machinal in September.
Gus has directed Deep Water and A Ballaarat Christmas Carol with students from the Arts Academy at Sovereign Hill, Ballarat and previously directed John McNeil's Pikers and Louis Nowra's The Golden Age , for the Berry Drama Group.
As a freelance designer, most recently Gus has designed set and costumes for Calvin Berger at the Lawler Studio, Southbank Theatre and Manilla Street's Production of Blood Brothers at Chapel Off Chapel. Other freelance work has included Cheeky Theatre ' s Ordinary Days and Come Blow Your Horn and Tracey Bourne ' s The House At The End Of The Line.
